French lingerie house Aubade, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, has invited the famously avant-garde designers and fashion artists Viktor&Rolf to lend their haute couture vision to a special one-off capsule collection for AW2019. Together Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren developed an exclusive 9-piece collection with the label's signature motif bow as protagonist. The Bow capsule thus unites Aubade's legendary craftsmanship with the artfully fashion-forward aesthetic for which Viktor&Rolf are known.
The collection features a range of bras with panties and briefs to match, as well as an embroidered top. Available in two colors, "Bonbon" pink and "Soir" black, the capsule's signature embellishments contain laser cut bows and delicate dots, while flat satin bows add an unexpected touch to both the front and back of the pieces. Men, too, can find an offering in a printed array of boxers, where the signature bow motif is converted into a bonbon and black version, with more dandified black and white interpretations in playful top hats, canes, mustaches and bow-ties. The Bow collection hits the shelves of selected retail partners, Aubade boutiques worldwide and the brand's online store from June 2019.
For the accompanying campaign, Viktor&Rolf selected award-winning Dutch photographer Viviane Sassen, whose rose-hued images are both seductive and elegant, with leaves softly obscuring the models' faces. This touch can be seen as a nod to former Aubade campaigns, where models are also rendered faceless so every woman can imagine herself in the piece.
Addressing selected press and media at the Parisian launch of the Viktor&Rolf x Aubade collaboration, the two designers reflected on the joys and challenges of designing lingerie. "We did not know the lingerie market at all, so we dived into it kind of innocently and we quickly realized that designing lingerie is very different from designing couture.”
