Top Drawer Lingerie Launches Hurricane Harvey Recovery Efforts

Top Drawer Lingerie is located in Houston, Texas, one of the areas that bore the brunt of Hurricane Harvey.

The store the store escaped with minimal damage.  Some carpets will need to be replaced and some leaks in the roof repaired, but fortunately, no merchandise was damaged in the flooding. Top Drawer's staff, thankfully, all survived but sadly suffered varying degrees of property damage as a result of the Hurricane.

In the wake of this sad event, the store is setting a shining example by focusing on recovery efforts.

While the community is doing an excellent job of donating clothing and other items, bras and underwear often remain desperately needed and are often under-donated after tragedies such as this. Thus far, Top Drawer Lingerie has donated over $5,000 of bras and underwear but much much more is needed.

A bra drive was started last week, and, according to Dow Hickam, store owner, the response has been phenomenal. Women are bringing new and gently used bras for donation by the bag full.  Additionally, they have been contacted by other lingerie stores all over the United States wanting to send us donations. Anna Bella Fine Lingerie in Alpharetta, Georgia, City Drawers in Belfast, Maine and Whisper Intimate Apparel in Stillwater, Oklahoma are all offering to help. The boutique has also reached out to their suppliers and has received commitments from Simone Perele, Van de Velde, Lise Charmel, Eveden,  Wacoal,  Le Mystère and Panache. The store reports that "thus far everyone has been eager to help."

Dow Hickam adds, "I’ve lived in Houston for 42 years, and I’ve never seen anything quite like this, the scope and scale of the disaster are really unprecedented. As devastating as the flooding was, the cooperation and community efforts to re-built have been even stronger.  We are doing our part to aid the recovery effort in the best way we know how: bras. Thousands of Houston women lost everything in Hurricane Harvey. While the community has done an excellent job of donating clothing and other items, bras and underwear are rarely given and desperately needed."

Top Drawer Lingerie has also reached out to its vendors to help women in the Texas area in need and is pleased to report a very positive response on this front as well.
