On October 26th, the New York City 393 Pop Up Space was home to a media event showcasing artwork from The Elomi Portrait Project, accompanied by an expert bra-fitting session and panel discussion. The objective of the project is to shift the societal perception of women in relation to size and outer beauty by attempting to create a thought-provoking experience using real data analysis.
Elomi, which is represented by Eveden Inc, a division of the parent company Wacoal Europe, partnered with five influential female artists; Zoe Buckman, Sam Cannon, Suma Jane Dark, Jordan Sondler and Camila Rosato to create uniquely descriptive portraits of five pioneers of body positivity; Nicolette Mason, Chastity Valentine, Essie Golden, Chanté Burkett and Kristine Thompson.
Big data collection tool IBM Watson, was used to analyze influencer blog posts, news articles, interviews, texts and spoken data in order to create a comprehensive outline of each woman's personality. Each narrative was then assigned and presented to one artist.
"For us The Elomi Portrait Project is the start of the journey. It's about telling Elomi stories in the most creative and engaging way," attests Laura Simon, CMO, Wacoal Europe. It seems the goal is to define her story which is otherwise defined by her appearance.
To further the dialogue on the substance of a woman, OKREAL's Uli Beutter Cohen hosted "The Transformers," a panel conversation which profiled three influential women's journey's to make society more inclusive of fuller figures, and to go beyond what first meets the eye. Coupled with Elomi's fit experts ready to offer professional bra fittings, the event seemed to be as much about the feels as the looks.
