Seaqual is well-known amongst its peers for its innovative environmental approach. 5 materials created from their fibers are displayed in the brand new 'Smart Materials' area at Première Vision Paris. At the heart of Smart Square, this space is dedicated to showcasing the best in responsible creation.
More than just a fiber
Seaqual is above all defined by its approach: that of clearing the oceans by ridding them of the plastic waste with which they are overwhelmed. Launched in 2016, the brand became the first ingredient brand to to collect -with fishing boats and other ocean cleanup programs- rubbish directly from the ocean. Once sorted and up-cycled, these materials are returned to industry under the name Seaqual™ Polymer, which is then used to make new, sustainable products.
Once processed, the plastics collected by fishermen are spun into high-quality polyester fibers: Seaqual™ Fiber is a fiber created with an environmentally-conscious market in mind. This fiber, which possesses physical properties similar to those of virgin polyester, is available in a wide variety of sizes and finishes (continuous filaments and staple fibers) which make it suitable for a multitude of uses: for fashion, sport, denime, lingerie, swim and footwear garments, but also furniture, automotive upholstery or non-woven fabrics. Brands therefore are given full creative freedom whilst allowing consumers to help clean up the world's oceans.
New fabrics to discover in Première Vision's 'Smart Materials' area
Première Vision launched Smart Square in 2015 as a space dedicated to responsible production which places at the fore innovative environmental approaches. This year for the third time, this space has grown and notably includes the "Smart Materials" area, a zone which presents responsibly-produced products- a mission that fits in well with Seaqual's philosophy. Five new materials are on show in "Smart Materials". They demonstrate the range of creativity offered by the brand:
1. Textil Santanderina showcase a woven fabric in 100% Seaqual™ Fiber, ideal for technical sports jackets and bags.
2. Lemar have developed 'Tulip' , a versatile and very light fabric , made with 35% Seaqual™ Fiber. Its beautiful structure makes it a favorite for men's swimming trunks, for which creators are often looking to increase the texture of the material.
3. This light denim was developed by Textil Santanderina and is ideal for shirts, kimonos and dresses. It is also completely eco-friendly thanks to its combination of 70% Lyocell and 30% Seaqual™ Fiber.
4. A Sampaio have developed a beautiful knit combining organic merino wool (73%) and Seaqual Fiber to create a soft and sustainable mid-weight fabric. The design of the fabric allows designers creative license to play with multiple effects.
