Just a
few steps from the gates of Clitheroe Castle, welcoming thousands of visitors
every year, a much loved boutique has made a comeback with style to the delight
of its customers and owner, Jenna Barnes. Having originally opened the boutique
in 2018, following the health crisis and maternity leave, Jenna was forced to
pass the business on but it was subsequently closed. In July 2023 the
dressmaker and former costume designer for the musical Cabaret, was only too
happy to once again take over this gem making it even more special. Housed in a
former early 19th century bar and tobacconist store, the delightful
boutique resembles a glass display cabinet with the large windows on two sides offering
passers-by a peek at the items on show.
Inside, the 97
square feet on two floors were given a makeover for the grand relaunch: in
a profusion of pink, the furnishing is art deco style, inspired by the opulence
and decadent upholstery of the Venice Simplon Orient Express which Jenna Barnes
boarded during her honeymoon. A small wooden staircase flanked by a glistening
golden tile mosaic invites customers to browse upstairs where polished brass rails
positioned at different heights on the walls maximize the space exhibiting fine
lingerie. Sumptuous textiles, antique furniture, a selection of vintage hats
and an original 1930s burlesque headdress adorn the store conveying a retro
feel. While currently restocking to add a good selection of high-end British
and international brands Jenna also plans to rent the boutique out to photographers
and brands for photo shoots.
We love the vintage suitcases dotting the
store, a reminder of Jenna’s inspiring journey. Among the brands offered
