Following the rhythm of his emotions
we are transported into his stories expressed in fine felt and
Indian ink. And we are spellbound by them.
A natural born artist
Michael Cailloux has literally always had art at
his fingertips! From an early age, he would draw
on anything he could find. Following his true
passion, he passed his artistic baccalaureate
before obtaining his higher diploma in applied
arts in 1998 at the Duperré school, in Paris. His
choice of technique fell on drawings in fine felt
and Indian ink. He very quickly made a name for
himself in the world of decor with the creation
of his workshop LZC and by carrying out several
custom-made projects for prestigious brands
including Baccarat and Van Cleef & Arpels...
Ten years later, he felt the need to return
to something more personal and artistic. He
therefore spent four years training in etching
techniques… and it was at the Museum of
Decorative Arts that he had a true epiphany:
the idea of transcribing the images born of his
dazzling imagination ... onto walls! This is how
Michael developed his concept of wall jewelry,
a technique blending etching and the use of cut
copper plates.
Each piece is original, inspired by dreamlike
animals and plants and flora, a testament to
an exceptional artistic skill, which has earned
Michael numerous exhibitions in London, Paris
and Tokyo. Recently, he was invited to express
himself through his art on the theme “Wonderful
reverie” at the Jean-Jacques Rousseau Museum
in Montmorency, Paris (on show until Sunday,
October 30, 2022).
Mesmerizing creations
Michael introduces us to a wonderful aquarium.
Its sparkling universe of colors, contrasting with
the dark background, comes alive with marine
creatures instantly plunging us into the depths
of the ocean. The rocking of the waves prompts
us to draw on our own imagination propelling us into an astounding imaginative universe.
The creatures have a magical, yet fairytalelike
quality. A kaleidoscope of harmoniously
assembled vibrant colors: purple, red, orange,
green, blue...Some animals are etched in white
conveying an otherworldly atmosphere as a soft
spatial symphony plays in the background, both
delicate and enchanting.
The artist also enjoys infusing a touch of
humor in his creations, playing with ideas,
and stretching his imagination. The pieces are
fun, associating elements dating from the 18th
century with more contemporary ones, the
artist mixing and merging all that inspires and
fascinates him… and it works!
Other magical worlds and environments are
created in his drawings: such as a thriving garden
full of animals of all sorts, both real and imaginary,
transporting us in the bat of an eye as if by a poetic
song. Caught up in Michael’s images is like being
sucked into a psychedelic universe, animated by
strange creatures, living by the banks of a river or
deep in a fantastic jungle, and which it would be so
fascinating to meet in the metaverse...
Art suitable for supports of all kinds
Michael never ceases to bring his fabulous and
colorful worlds to life. He adapts his creations to
different media and experiments with all kinds of
techniques: from wallpaper to children’s books,
from umbrellas to scarves... In 2021, the artist
collaborated with the Japanese brand Shiseido
in their collection “the garden of splendors” for
their “key to skin’s beauty” range. A world that
combines still life and an urban zoo appears to
suit him perfectly, and we are eager to discover
more about the artist through his future
achievements.
