A place poised on the shores of Lake Como, celebrating the life and work of Beppe Spadacini, a man who attained success through his passion for beauty, color, textiles and travelling. A place with its roots in the past but clearly projected toward the future: Suite&Atelier Lake Como.
Born in Italy and the son of a florist, it was apparent from very early on that Beppe Spadacini had a keen eye for the beauty that the world carries within it. It was also obvious he had talent and was blessed with fine artistic abilities which he was to put to good use, translating the fascination for his surroundings onto paper and designing marvellous patterns inspired directly from his experience of the exotic habitats he visited.
To fuel his creativity he travelled extensively, visiting many enchanting corners of the world. It was during one of his travels that he fell in love with the island of Bali and decided to trade the Italian winter months for the tropical jungle. From then on, the designs came flowing, especially those inspired by the tropical landscape, and quickly the word spread. Italian fashion houses came knocking at the door, asking for the designs of Beppe Spadacini.
Over 50 years on, his artistic legacy is preserved in the ‘Archivio Spadacini’ with headquarters inside a residence built on what used to be a Renaissance cloister which the designer had chosen as his atelier. With its arches, large windows looking onto the lake and suggestive courtyard, here past and future come together.
Inside is a rich and diverse archive comprising over 10,000 hand-crafted drawings, thousands of printed textiles, patterns, screen prints, accessories, clothing and a collection of over five thousand books and publications gathered over a lifetime. An immense cultural heritage that has been catalogued, organised and digitised and now continues to serve a purpose.
The Archivio Spadacini is run by Director Nello Marelli who gives continuity to the creative design tradition and shares the know-how of this precious cultural heritage by making it available to professionals as well providing the perfect work space and accommodation to enjoy it.
Equipped with five suites, three lounges, an atelier and library, this unique location is well-equipped for small and large work teams, offering the field technology required: high-speed internet connection, computers, digitisers, design tables and lighting. All this comes in a setting which, thanks to its tranquility and beauty, aids concentration and sparks off inspiration. Here design teams and experts can carry out research, work, train, acquire expertise and ideas while delving into an archive of colours, patterns, and textile designs which is unparalleled.
The venue works in partnership with its customers, hosting events, organising workshops, seminars and making available to them their decades old know-how in textiles and the technical knowledge required to apply it. Through their unique archive they are able to offer advice on seasonal trends for different product sectors with specific expertise in the world of color and technical support throughout the whole design process. And so at Suite&Atelier Lake Como...Beppe Spadacini’s legacy lives on.
