The Best ofIntima & Swim Edit
The pandemic brought new ways of meeting
customers and suppliers using online
technology. How did this impact your
workflow?
We understood how important it was for
Yamamay to have an e-commerce platform.
This is why, in October 2021, we processed a
data migration from a supplier and built a team
with a strong structure in order to boost our
e-commerce.
What options did you use for viewing and
choosing the fabrics?
We think that the future is the use of shared
platforms, digital libraries created from both
fabric producers and historical archives.
What is your latest investment in
technology? Or what changes have you
implemented since the pandemic?
We’re implementing the second part of the PLM
software update, while focusing our attention
particularly on all features of the materials. We
are also developing the teamwork – involving
designers and paper pattern makers team –
towards the use of 3D design.
Are you familiar with 3D design solutions?
We are aware about the endless possibilities the
use of this tool provides, and, during this first
step, we are giving priority to the training and to
all those activities necessary to develop patterns.
It’s both a technical tool and a marketing one.
Which technology are you using? And why
did you choose that specific solution?
Assyst is our partner for the use of 2D and 3D
CAD software. We think Assyst is the best
choice thanks to their knowledge about all of
the technical features for the development of
new patterns as well as the management of
libraries and archives.
Would you say 3D design technology is an
innovation for a select few or will it be the
new standard working method?
It will surely be the new working standard,
without however discontinuing the use of
the 2D system as it is linked to the product’s
industrialization process.
3D design companies assert one of the
advantages is that the technology speeds up
the work process. Is this true for you?
At the moment we don’t have any KPIs that
demonstrate that this technology can reduce
time in the different work phases, however we
are sure this will happen in the near future,
and we are working and preparing ourselves to
make this possible.
Would you say 3D designing has an impact
on cost reduction?
Not yet.
In your opinion, is 3D design opening new
creative opportunities? (please give actual
examples)In my opinion the 3D system helps to improve
not only the cooperation between fashion
designers and paper pattern makers but also
with suppliers.
How many fabric suppliers are offering 3D
scanned items for you to use?
We now have three suppliers, which produce
the basic collection, that are sending us the
first paper patterns created through the 3D
technology.
Looking ahead, is this a service you will
expect from your suppliers?
Yes, of course. We have noticed that, without
asking for them, suppliers are sending us the 3D
files for viewing. Our shared goal is to reduce
not only the time spent on the different stages
but also to reduce the number of prototypes
and PPS. Our common aim is to produce items
that can be sold in our stores in order to avoid
stock at the end of the season.
To what stage of the work process have you
implemented 3D technology in your current
collection range?
We have already used this technology for EDIT
2021 and EDIT 2022 collections. We are also
using it for the creation of a new innovative
product that will be launched in Autumn 2023.
Are you already using your 3D designs
to showcase and sell products to the end
consumer?
Not yet to the end consumer, but we are using
them with our B2B retail customers.
What is your take on VR solutions?
We will all be surrounded by virtual reality in
the running of our daily activities. The use of
the Internet will be our new life.
