During the 1960s, Prince Karim Aga Khan fell in love with a little corner of paradise in northeastern Sardinia, unspoiled and free from modern development. Here he combined the elements of luxury lifestyle and architectural design, with minimal environmental impact, intended to preserve the territory's beauty. This was the advent of the now-famous Costa Smeralda, also known as the Emerald Coast, heralding a new form of eco-friendly tourism and an exclusive playground for the world's elite. It also gave birth, at the same time, to the beachfront boutique Esmeralda Bazar, which is still a gathering point of the who’s who. Today, this little “bazaar” is one of the most exclusive shopping destinations in the whole of Italy, and the most prestigious embodiment of the Porto Cervo lifestyle. In front of the store, there is a small beach and a private dock that welcomes a high-profile international clientele arriving from the yachts offshore. ❤ We love that the store was built by local artisans who used only natural, locally-sourced Sardinian materials – from the old wood used for shelves and displays to the stone and teak-tree roots used for chairs and organic sculptures. A very unique aspect is the floor tiles that were made by Picasso’s ceramist at the request of the Aga Khan, which reproduce symbols of Sardinian culture, incised by hand. From resortwear to swimwear and eveningwear, the shop offers luxury ready-to-wear and accessories, as well as exclusive beach couture and the Esmeralda swimwear line. The décor showcases the products, all placed at your fingertips, in a way that lets them tell their story in harmony with the Esmeralda esprit.
