Femmy Gala 2019: Under the Sign of Design

The 61st edition of the highly-anticipated awards took place in New York this week, and The Best of Intima was there for the action!

Since its first-ever edition in 1963, the Femmy Gala has grown into one of the premier events in the intimate apparel universe. Organized annually by The Underfashion Club, the evening honors figures that have significantly contributed to the industry, and Intima Media Group has been privileged to partner with them for the past 12 years. This year's edition took place on February 4th at the opulent Cipriani 42nd St, New York.

The Femmys gala is known for attracting the best in the business, and this year was no different, as the evening was hosted by world-renowned supermodel Emme. Whilst guests enjoyed a sumptuous dinner in the stunning setting, prizes were rewarded to honorees from all segments of the intimates industry.

The Annual Student Design contest was, of course, a highlight of the night. This year, students had been asked to design around the theme of ‘Body Positivity’. Students were able to choose their own model between size 7/8 and size 16 on which to present their designs, and the winning designs will be featured in a dedicated photo shoot in the summer edition of The Best of Intima!

The competition is a crucial part of the Underfashion Club’s determination to encourage education and to support the industry’s future designers. As well as this, the Femmy awards help the Underfashion Club to fundraise for its Scholarship, Internship and Grants programmes.

First place in the design contest went to Sierra White, second to Dorshelle Guillaume, and 3rd place to Laurel Yau.

Supplier Award: Pioneer Elastic Fabric Ltd.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Mike Freville and Chris Melton (Dillard’s)

Humanitarian Award: Mahesh Amalean (MAS Holdings)

President’s Award: Tristine Berry
